Shoulder Braces

Shoulder pain, injuries and surgery are the most common reasons people turn to shoulder braces to give them support, relief and the ability to heal their shoulder as quickly as possible. Shoulder braces come in a wide variety of selections to choose from with different features to cater to the many different types of shoulder issues. Before you purchase a shoulder brace, be sure you know some of the basic facts that will help you find the correct brace for you or your loved one’s condition.

  • Is the brace needed for post-op purposes or due to a break, sprain or injury?
  • Will it be used for shoulder support to reduce pain or discomfort, or does the brace need to keep your shoulder completely immobilized?
  • Are you or your loved one having pain or discomfort due to posture problems that require the corrective support of a brace?
  • How long will the sling or brace be worn? Will it be needed short term; a few weeks, or long term, to be worn for months?

Shoulder Slings

A shoulder sling is worn to stabilize the shoulder or arm following an injury or surgery to facilitate healing. It allows the arm and shoulder to rest and restricts excessive movement to prevent agitation to the injury or surgical procedure. It is typically made of a soft and durable material. The neck strap is adjustable and easily slips over the neck so that the sling pocket hangs in front of the arm that will rest in it. It can be shifted to hold either the left or right arm. It helps to stabilize the muscles and ligaments of the shoulder, while supporting your arm.

Shoulder Immobilizers

Shoulder injuries are one of the most common injuries people sustain due to the shallow socket the top of the arm bone sits in. Dislocations happen often due to overextension of this joint which will require having your arm set and then immobilized. There are other reasons you may need your shoulder immobilized for some time, too, such as surgery. Shoulder immobilizer braces allow your arm to lay in a sling/brace but give you added support by immobilizing it with an arm cuff that wraps around your waist and keeps your arm close to your body so that your shoulder does not move and aggravate an injury. All shoulder immobilizers that we offer at CSA Medical are adjustable and designed to fit both Men and Women.

Shoulder Stabilizers

There are a few reasons why a shoulder stabilizer is needed:

  • Shoulder dislocation
  • Shoulder subluxation
  • Global shoulder instabilities

Shoulder stabilizers keep the shoulder, arm, muscles and ligaments rested; limiting abduction and exterior rotation while not sacrificing all function. There are many styles and types of shoulder stabilizers to choose from, including dual shoulder stabilizers. Most shoulder stabilizers have the main piece of the brace that is worn over the chest, with a brace that extends to the injured arm and shoulder. You can find shoulder stabilizers that allow you to adjust the amount of rotation you get in your shoulder by adjusting the straps.

Shoulder Abduction Braces

Following shoulder surgery, your doctor will order that you keep your shoulder immobilized, and positioned at a particular angle, away from your body. This is typically when a shoulder abduction brace is needed. For proper healing of muscles, tendons and ligaments, holding your shoulder at a specific angle is required. This is what shoulder abduction braces do. Shoulder abduction supports or braces come with a pillow that attaches to your waist that you rest your arm against and away from your body. They are comfortable and can be adjusted to give you the perfect degree of angular abduction for your shoulder.

Shoulder Posture Braces

Posture is important to keep your back and neck in alignment. There are many reasons why people suffer from poor posture which forces your shoulders slump. This can and can become an uncomfortable strain on the neck, back and shoulders. There are many different types of poor posture. Two of the most common types are the forward head posture and the rounded shoulder posture. Both are treatable with shoulder posture braces. Don't let bad posture create major health problems for you in the future. You can start correcting your poor posture and begin to retrain your muscles by wearing a posture support brace.  Many posture support braces and be worn underneath your clothes. Shoulder posture braces come in a wide variety of designs and sizes to fit your needs and are made for both men and women.

Finding the right shoulder brace is critical for the proper healing of your shoulder injury or surgery as well as to minimize pain and discomfort due to an injury or strain. If you aren't sure what type of brace you need, talk to your doctor to find out which type of brace is recommended for you or your loved one. When you get the right brace, your shoulder has the best chance of healing and recovering so that you can live life comfortably and pain-free.
