Electro Therapy
What is Electro therapy?
Electro therapy is the very effective use of small electric stimuli to heal wounds and treat pains. It stimulates muscles and nerves to improve function, therapeutically relaxing tissues to bring about alleviation of pain. According to scientific studies, this therapy has lead to amazing results in treating both chronic and acute pain.
Electric therapy can be used in several ways to treat several conditions.
The following are the common Electro therapeutic devices that we offer at CSA Medical Supply
TENS Units (TENS)
The affected part of the body is covered with a self-adhesive pad. The device is then turned on to generate electric pulses that stimulate the nervous system. Each pulse lasts only for millionths of one second.
The pain signals are blocked to carry forward to the brain due to high frequency electric pulses. On the other hand, low frequencies help to stimulate endorphin (natural pain killer) production in the body. The relief from pain resulted from the therapy lasts for many hours.
Electrical Muscle Simulators (EMS)
The electrodes are usually placed on the motor point spot over the muscles. A motor point is an entry point in the muscles for motor nerves. EMS generates electric current stimulating the muscle to contract and expand, increasing blood circulation to the muscles and strengthens muscle fiber.
Conductive Garments
These are neuro-stimulation electrodes made of woven conductive fibers, usually silver and another woven fiber, and come in form of conventional electrode pads or manually sewn into a wearable garments such as as gloves, socks, sleeves, or even wraps. They are a great alternative for patients whose skin reacts quite unfavorably with gelled electrodes, and find keeping the treatment area with conventional electrodes an uphill task, or who need much larger stimulation coverage throughout the entire garment area.
The garment has to fit snugly against the skin to avoid gaps between the skin and the garment which could cause stimulation to become less effective and uncomfortable.
Benefits Of Electro therapy
- Alleviates Pain
Electro therapy effectively penetrates tissue without invasion, extensively treating strains and sprains.
Electro therapy can also reduce muscle-tightening, often responsible for major neck and back pain, preventing migraines in the long run. Reducing muscle spasms and back pain can prevent exacerbation of the back problems, which may lead to disability or surgery.
- Range of Motion and Decreasing Atrophy
Electro therapy is often used to help reduce swelling which can help to improve both range and movement. electro therapy stimulates muscles that are less frequently used and helps to prevent impairment of muscles.
- Benefits to Cardiac Patients
Studies have shown that patients put under electro therapy were reported to have shown an improvement in their overall medical condition including muscular endurance, weight reduction, and an overall lowering of their body mass index (BMI).
Proper use of these instruments ensures complete safety. However, only seek this kind of treatment after consulting a qualified medical worker or your doctor. Most people with chronic pain conditions find that regular treatment provides an almost-instant relief. So popular and safe are these treatments, that many people with chronic pain administer the treatment themselves from the comfort of their homes.
