Why we offer this scholarship
Every day, we help people stay independent at home with rollators and knee scooters, braces, and the replacement parts that keep their equipment working. Behind every one of those customers is a nurse, therapist, doctor, or caregiver who helped them get back on their feet. This scholarship is our way of supporting the next generation of people who will do that work.
We also know that some of the most determined students are the ones who have lived through a health or mobility challenge themselves. That's why the scholarship is open to students in any major who have overcome a challenge of their own.
The scholarship at a glance
- Award: $1,000, one winner, paid directly to the student
- Application deadline: May 31, 2027 (11:59 PM Eastern)

Who can apply
- U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or students with a valid U.S. student visa.
- Students enrolled in, or accepted for fall 2027 at, an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university, or nursing program in the U.S.
- Students studying (or planning to study) a healthcare field such as nursing, physical or occupational therapy, pre-med, pharmacy, or allied health, or students in any major who have personally overcome a health or mobility challenge.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (high school GPA for incoming freshmen).
The essay prompt
Tell us about a time a health or mobility challenge (your own or someone close to you) changed how you see independence, and how it shapes what you want to do in your career.
Essays should be 500 to 1,000 words. A traditional essay, a poem, or a short story is welcome, as long as it answers the prompt.
How to apply
- Visit our 2027 scholarship page.
- Fill in the short form with your name, contact details, school, major, graduation year, and GPA.
- Paste your essay into the essay box and submit. You'll see a confirmation message once your application is received.
Our team reads every entry and scores it on originality, clarity of writing, and how well it answers the prompt. The winner will be contacted by email and phone.

Tips for a strong essay
- Tell a real story. A specific moment, like a parent learning to walk again after surgery or your own recovery from an injury, is more powerful than general statements.
- Connect it to your future. Show us how that experience shapes the career you want and the kind of care you hope to give.
- Write it yourself. Essays must be your own original work. Plagiarized or AI-generated essays will be disqualified.
- Proofread. Read it out loud once before you submit.
